PRP, which stands for Platelet Rich Plasma allows us to use a patient’s own blood products and concentrate the naturally occurring regenerative cells and signals which allow regrowth of nerves and connective tissues such as cartilage, collagen, muscle, blood vessels, and more. Platelet Rich Plasma AKA PRP can be explained by studying the healing process. We have all gotten a cut or scrape and as the blood brings the platelets in to stop the bleeding it also brings in growth factors and stem cells to regrow the damaged tissue. We can use this natural process to our advantage to heal and rejuvenate tissues, such as skin, erogenous zones, eyes, hair follicles, and more.
PRP is obtained by drawing a small amount of blood, typically about 2 ounces. This blood is then centrifuged in a highly sophisticated and specifically calibrated, Platelet Rich Plasma centrifuge that separates the red blood cells from the healing and regenerative parts of the blood: known as PRP. This can be thought of as the rebuilding products that can heal, regenerate and improve aging or damaged tissues. After being spun down the PRP is applied topically to or injected into the area of interest. If microneedling or injections are needed then numbing creams are administered. This entire visit is typically about an hour. Effects can be noticed instantly but maximum effects take 1-2 months and can last for years.
In the Aesthetic world we can use PRP to reduce the signs of aging in one’s face eg. Vampire Facial or Vampire Facelift. These treatments rejuvenate the face by re-growing lost collagen and connective tissues. This reduces pore size, improves skin color and clarity, reduces acne outbreaks, reduces scarring, improves texture, reduces fine lines and dark circles.
Not only the face can be treated with PRP. PRP can also improve sexual health for men (P-shot) and women (O-shot). These therapies use PRP to regrow nerves, connective tissue, and blood vessels to improve sensation and health of both men and women’s sexual organs. Orgasms can become easier to attain and become more intense. Good blood flow and functioning nerves are important in both attaining and maintaining an erection. PRP can make these stronger and last longer. Women get the added benefit of strengthening the pelvic floor which can reduce or eliminate stress incontinence and recurrent UTIs. Due to the ability of PRP to grow tissues men can experience improved size and women often notice improved lubrication and enhanced vaginal sensations.
PRP can even be used to thicken thinning hair and restore a youthful appearance to hands, neck, and chest. It can be used to increase cleavage and fullness of the breasts. It can even improve nipple sensation which often declines naturally with age but also with injury from breastfeeding and breast implants. Even if a man or woman never had any nipple sensation it can be improved with PRP.
In addition to its rejuvenating properties, PRP has healing properties. Some women who had a difficult labor involving vaginal tearing are left with scarring that causes pain during intercourse. PRP can be used to heal these chronically painful areas. This can aid in healing ED in men who have damaged blood vessels and nerves from poor aging, diabetes, hypertension, and peripheral vascular disease. Bell’s palsy is a disorder affecting a cranial nerve of the face responsible for many facial movements including blinking and smiling. It often resolves on its own but when it persists the affected nerve can be regrown with PRP. PRP has additionally been shown to be very effective in the treatment of many forms of Dry Eye. When used to treat dry eye it can be given as eye drops or injected into the lacrimal gland. Join and muscle injuries are even treated with this remarkable blood product. Many of the healing effects of PRP do not require repeat injections.
The best part about PRP is that there is no risk of drug interactions or drug reactions –it’s not a drug. A person is not sensitive or allergic to their own blood so allergies and sensitivities that can happen with other treatments are a non-issue with this treatment. It’s a natural effective way to age better.
